There has in the past been a great deal of acrimony when the weather is bad. What used to happen when the skipper doesn’t wish to cancel as he feels that the weather is okay to undertake the trip but the group feels that the weather is too much for them. The group cancels and the skipper receives payment in full.

If the skipper cancels then he received nothing and this always led to arguments as it wasn’t in the interests of the Skipper to cancel.

What this system brought about, is that it wasn’t in the interest of the skipper to cancel and the groups were willing to go to sea when they didn’t feel safe because they didn’t want to lose money.

Our agreement with Mevagh Diving is to change this to a much fairer system. If there is bad weather and the skipper says that it’s possible but the group cancel then the group still pay for the day but receive a €240 fuel rebate, likewise if the Skipper feels that the weather is too bad to go to sea then we also pay for the day and receive the €240 fuel rebate.

This also gives us the choice of wrecks to dive. Example would be that we wish to dive the Empire Heritage but because of the direction of the wind and waves it’s not possible but we could dive the Laurentic as it’s more sheltered but we don’t want to dive the Laurentic so we have a level of control over the dive sites.

On days where it’s not possible to dive we will attempt to organise some other activity, eg. a coach to take us to the Titanic Museum in Belfast.
